  • Shopping for a new car

I currently drive a Mazda 3 on a lease plan. When I got it nearly 2.5 years ago I had just spent a couple of months without a car. At the time I decided that I didn’t particularly want to ‘own’ a car, but was happy to pay to have use of one.

  • HWA July meeting

This month Mark Hancock came to demonstrate what he termed a ‘rocking vessel’ What this actually means is a hollow form, with no flat base. So rather than standing up in a conventional way, they roll around, or ‘rock’ to a natural resting point.

  • Tesco FAIL

Last night I was refused the purchase of alcohol by my local Tesco store. As far as I can recall this is the first time I’ve every been refused an alcohol purchase. The reason for refusal has annoyed me to a considerable extent, because of the implications, and the general absurdity of the ‘rules’ being…

  • With Frickin’ Lasers…Part 3

And so it is done. After a little over 2 years of talking about it, and figuring out whether I really wanted to spend the money etc., etc. I have finally had my vision corrected…with frickin’ lasers! As I type this, it is 2 days since I had the treatment.

  • One year of blogging

As I noted in my inaugural post, it was my intention to keep this as something like a public diary. Pretty much everything I write about is for my own benefit. And now that I look back upon a year of posting, at a rate of just over 1 per week, I am glad I…

  • Captured ring rattle

At the time I made the bottle stopper I made the captured ring using just a basic skew chisel and spindle gouge. And then I made a tool of my own to try to make it easier in the future. I took a long masonry nail and used the bench grinder to shape the head…
