With frickin’ lasers…Part 2
This morning I went for my free consultation appointment with ultralase. I went to their Southampton branch and I thought I’d write about my experience.
With frickin’ lasers!
For some considerable time I’ve been toying with the idea of laser vision correction. The idea of being able to fix my eyesight on a more permanant basis than glasses appeals greatly. However the idea of the treatment itself is a little scary.
Most improved novice
It’s amazing just how good I feel about being given this cup. I’ve been going to the club for a little under a year now. Which means I’ve been wood turning seriously for about a year also. It’s nice to find I’m not the only one who thinks I’ve improved.
Navit Update
It’s been a while since I’ve done much with Navit. My regular week doesn’t include much travelling and I’ve just not had that much time to devote to it. When push comes to shove, my wood turning normally wins when competeing for my free time.
Eastleigh’s new facilities
It’s been a long time coming, but at long last Eastleigh has its Cinema.
Artistic aspirations…take 2
Recently I wrote about a challenge I’d been set to let go of the idea that my wood turnings should be ‘things’ with purpose, such as bottle stops, lidded boxes, bowls etc etc. And instead simply make something that looks interesting.
Using an indexing ring
Back when I started wood turning, one of the first things I invested in was a 4 jaw self-centering chuck. One of the feature of the chuck is an ‘indexing ring’, which I quickly discovered is not much use to you without a fixed point to lock into the notches.
Gravelling the garden
Last year, my girlfriend and I spent 3 days building decking in our garden which I blogged about at the time: The great decking project & Decking finished. It was always the intention to cover the rest of the garden with gravel to match some already there.
Unique art or uninspired copy
I decided for this project not to take any pictures of the making process. I’m not sure why but it seemed that unlike a functional piece, as a piece of art it should evolve naturally and only be seen in its final form.
Lidded box project
Some months ago I bought a number of project accessories from Turners retreat. I was primarily after bottle stopper bits, eg the rubbery bits that form the seal. But I ended up buying a bottle opener end piece.
